Foundations of Christian Chaplaincy
About Course
Discover the biblical foundation of Christian chaplaincy and, understand the chaplain’s calling and role, and learn the responsibilities, boundaries, and character required to serve others with compassion and integrity.
Foundations of Christian Chaplaincy introduces students to the calling, purpose, and biblical foundation of Christian chaplaincy. This course examines how chaplains provide Christ-centered spiritual care to people facing crisis, grief, illness, loneliness, uncertainty, and other difficult circumstances.
Students will explore the role and responsibilities of a Christian chaplain, including compassionate listening, prayer, confidentiality, ethical conduct, appropriate boundaries, accountability, and respectful service. The course also explains what a chaplain is—and what a chaplain is not—so students can serve faithfully without exceeding their training, authority or professional role.
By the end of the course, students should have a clear understanding of Christian chaplaincy and be better prepared to discern whether God is calling them to this ministry.
